Ibiza has two very different sides. Notorious for its nightlife which has attracted hedonistic crowds since the 1960s, it has become something of a clubbers’ paradise. The side that people are perhaps not so familiar with is the relaxing island, rich in natural beauty and far removed from the crowds of Sant Antoni.
If you’re seeking white beaches, scenic walking routes, fantastic restaurants and luxury hotels and villas, our specialists have the knowledge and contacts to organise and book the perfect holiday for you.
They’ve cherry-picked some lesser known places to eat, drink and unwind that’ll get you away from the crowds this summer.
Getting to Ibiza’s most secluded beach requires an early start and a bit of exploration but it is well worth the effort. The east-facing Cala Llentrisca is a little known spot that boasts some of the clearest waters on the island thanks to the untended natural reefs that circle the half-moon bay. An old timber jetty provides a perfect diving ledge and the only people who will disturb you are the old fishermen tending to their nets in the colourful huts that line the sand. After a morning in the sun head to Bar Llumbi – a seafood restaurant high among the orange and lemon groves in the nearby village of Es Cubells.
If you’re ever able to turn your back on the beauty of Ibiza’s coastal stretches, you’ll be rewarded with some of the most inspiring Mediterranean landscapes there are. Driving through the interior, you’ll pass through wooded valleys, tiny Spanish hamlets, pine-covered mountainsides and terrace upon terrace of orange and lemon groves. The northern village of Sant Joan de Labritja encapsulates the greener, more peaceful side of Ibizan life and from here there are many excellent hiking and cycling tracks snaking through the surrounding hills.
Most of the romantic sunset spots along the west coast get booked up well in advance and often peddle style over substance. For a good pinch of both, head inland to the village of Sant Rafel. Already something of a culinary magnet, the town’s impressive dining scene got even better when La Belle Ibiza opened. The fairy-lit courtyard is a beautiful spot for savouring Gilles Escaffre’s cooking. His time in Joël Robuchon and Alain Ducasse’s kitchens shows – this is a man cooking with confidence. Reservations are a must – particularly for the Sunday barbecues.
The sinking sun signals the time when most Ibizan visitors head to one of the well-known west-facing bars like Café Mambo and Café del Mar. While the views and vibes are good – the DJs are experts at timing the music to the sun’s final rays – head to Benirrás beach on the northwestern coast. At the end of a winding mountain road, those in the know grab a cold beer from the beachside shack, find a quiet spot in the sand and watch the day come to a peaceful close.
David Guetta is hands down one of Ibiza’s biggest star attractions and the French DJ and producer is back in charge at Ushuaïa every Monday throughout the summer. His residency will be kicking off with fireworks and lavish shows from the end of June until late August. He’ll be sharing the summer roster with big names like Steve Aoki – who’ll throw his notorious Neon Future parties on Tuesdays – and Avicii, who’ll play every Sunday.
