Where: John Martin Gallery, 38 Albemarle Street, First Floor, London W1S 4JG
When: Thursday 19 January 2017, 6pm
You and guests are invited to an exclusive preview of the latest exhibition by Mark I’Anson – Blurring the Lines – at John Martin Gallery. A talk by the gallery owner will shed light on the working methods of the revered Scottish painter, while guests enjoy a complimentary glass of wine.
In its prestigious location, the Mayfair gallery champions the work of contemporary British painters and sculptors. At this event, guests can preview the 19th solo exhibition by Mark I'Anson, whose previous work includes the touring exhibitions The Dream Team in 2003 with the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and Drifter in 2006 with the Highland Council and the Scottish Fisheries Museum.
Relax with a complimentary glass of wine and learn more about how I’Anson’s early enthusiasm for sports trading cards evolved into the obsession with the vintage press photographs that continues to inform his immensely powerful and provocative paintings. Over time, the artist has meticulously researched and collected thousands of historical images of the forgotten faces of the early 20th century. Working in pencil and watercolour, he scrutinises the fading images of soldiers, workers, athletes and aviators to create stark and intensely observed portraits, often on a monumental scale.
This event is priced at £10 per attendee.
